Reorg project #3: Lipsticks and glosses
I've always appreciated elegance and simplicity in packaging. The trouble is that everything. looks. exactly. the. same. in my drawer. For the most part, lipsticks and glosses are labeled on the bottom of the tube. If I wanted a specific color, I'd have to grab handfuls at a time and flip them over. It was maddening... especially considering that lips are the last bit of makeup I do before bolting out the door. I needed them to be able to stand upside down, labels up. And I really needed to use my space more effectively, because I couldn't find any particular colors without having to root endlessly through this lovely mess:
Since I am so fond of my brush holder, I thought I'd check out EnKore's tutorial on lipstick organization:
Yep. I actually went through that tedium. It took under an hour, but the measuring and cutting is kind of annoying after awhile. Here are my materials:
And the results! Guess what kind of cereal I eat?
I gave it a test stuffing with various lippie brands:
My little compartments came out on the snug side, so if you do this, try to err on the side of slightly too big for each segment. I can stuff all 24 compartments if I vary lipsticks with glosses (for the most part, lipstick containers are fatter).
And that works out well, because I wanted this first one to just hold my neutral/day/whatever colors:
The Sterlite container I'd been using is much too shallow to hold lipsticks upended like this. I didn't want to eat up valuable counter (or, in my case, antique bedroom vanity) space, so I purchased a deeper container. I'll be able to line up 6 to 8 of these compartments within the box I selected (although I only need 4 total to organize all of my lippie tubes - uh, still, that's a lot).
So here's how it looks in the new container. I have a lot more cutting and folding ahead of me to tame the pile, but it's a start!
EDIT: I finished! Look how organized I am!
They're a little floppy but they serve my purposes quite well. And now I have one less pile of cardboard to drag out to the recycling bin. :)
